In a situation where there is a Production DB and 2 Standby DB's, if production fails and Standby[1] becomes the new production, can it take over the primary role for Standby [2] and continue to feed it REDO information, or do I need to take a new copy of Production and start the process all over again for Standby [2]?
Dave.

To open standby database in read/write mode, You must open them with RESETLOGS option. This means, that all information about arhived redo logs will be cleared. So, You must to recreate you standby[2] database.

(Oracle 9.2.0.6, AIX 5.2, Data Guard)

Having two standbys with Data Guard:
Standby[1]
Standby[2] - with an n hour delay of replication (tertiary in event of data corruption)

What would it entail or you suggest after the Switchover to Standby[1] and yet maintain the n hour replication to Standby[2]?

Thanks.

John
