I have two short questions that I am sure have long answers.

1. When using Oracle replicator is there a way to configure the servers such that if one fails the other
will immediatly take over without interruption of service.

2. Approximatly how long does the average failover take. I realize that boot times etc will influance this number.

M. Miller,

With Oracle Advanced Replication there is no failover timeframe on the actual database servers - both servers are running all of the time. In fact you can load balance and read/write data into both of them at the same time.

You can configure TAF on the client side, and this failover will occur the next time an attempt is made to connect to the 1st database, if it can't be accessed, the connection will be made to the 2nd database. The use just needs to disconnect, then re-connect whenever they have any type of issue with the 1st database.

You may find the following sample replication setup scripts to be helpful:

I have also linked a technote on replication design/setup which could be helpful.
