I have Oracle 8.1.5 server installed on Sun-solaris machine.
It shows a strange behaviour in case of index organized tables.
I have a Index organized master table. This is being referred by a detail table.
A referential integrity constraint is defined between the two.
Surprisingly I am able to delete the record from the master table even if there is a corresponding child record is the detail table.
This behaviour occurs for all the Index organized master tables, but not for the non-index organized tables.
All the foreign key constraints are enabled and validated.

What can be the reason for such a behaviour?

This is Oracle bug 821732, fixed in 8.1.6:

Foreign key constraint wasn't enforced against an Index Organized Table.

The workaround listed in the bug, kind of obvious, is to not use an IOT as a parent table.
